Walking is one of the most under-rated activities ever, and living in London has turned walking into my favorite mode of transportation because it’s free and this city is so incredibly captivating.

Whether I’m walking to class, to work, to the gym, or to nowhere in particular, London always has beauty and entertainment to offer.

The highlight of the journey to and from class is passing over the Waterloo Bridge.

Despite that the vicious wind always threatens to throw me into the river, the view from this bridge never fails to fascinate me.

On one side of the bridge lies staple London landmarks including the Jubilee Bridges, London Eye, Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament, whereas the other side contains the South Bank, the Shard, St. Pauls, the Blackfriars Bridge, and the skyscrapers of Canary Wharf.

At nighttime, all these structures are illuminated in different colors that create a sparkling mosaic of lights shining against the still darkness of the Thames.

It’s such an amazing sight that walking back from a night class is always worth it.

Exploring London always excites me due to the vast architectural diversity.

While every street holds rustic brick buildings, traditional churches, and majestic statues that reveal the city’s history, there is also a lot of pristine contemporary architecture that reveals the city’s modern side.

It’s amazing how cities can change to reflect a society’s cultural and economic transformation over time, and London’s urban landscape embodies an incredible intertwining of past and present.

Regardless of the diversity in London’s architecture, this time of year brings the spirit of Christmas to every building in the city.

Walking through London in the winter means inevitable encounters with decorated evergreens, twinkling lights, and Christmas decorations that bring the holiday spirit to every surface.

Through shopping in Christmas markets and indulging in spicy mulled wine, London provides so many opportunities to embrace the cold winter season and enjoy the warm excitement of the holidays.

So no matter what area of London one chooses to venture to, excitement always awaits.

The city is so enormous and so diverse that an unexpected moment of beauty can always turn an ordinary walk into an artistic experience.

Graffiti, artistic displays, memorials, decorations, and sculptures are only a handful of the visually stimulating surprises that linger on the streets of the city, but I guarantee a walk through London will never disappoint.
